• To determine the square footage of a room, measure the length and width of the room in feet and inches and enter the values in Section 1 of the calculator below.
• For unevenly shaped areas or multiple rooms, it is helpful to draw a diagram and divide the room up into sections. Treat each section as a separate area and input the measurements below.
• Closets should be measured as their own separate area.
• Measure each wall to the middle of the deepest doorway along each wall.
• If your room layout has slanting or curved sides, an island, stove, or fireplace hearth it may be best to have your room measured by a professional.

Most carpet comes in rolls 12' wide. Measuring for rooms less than 12' wide is different than rooms over 12' wide.
